Pet I - Obedience Class

Instruction will be given in:

  • Controlled walking
  • Sit, down, come
  • Use of food rewards
  • Interacting and playing with dogs in a motivational manner

Prerequisites:

  • Dogs must be at least 6 months old and in good physical condition.
  • Dogs may not be aggressive towards people or towards other dogs. Dogs that are aggressive will have to be evaluated by the instructor to determine if it can be handled in a class situation.

Students should bring to class: soft food, chew toy, play toy, and regular fabric or leather leash (flex leads will not be allowed). Students should wear athletic shoes.
Successful completion:  Dog must on command: sit, come, down. There must be a connection between dog and handler.

Pet II - Obedience Class - Canine Good Citizen®

Instruction will be given in preparation for exercises in the Canine Good Citizen® (CGC) test.

CGC is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs that have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs that pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.

  • Accepting a friendly stranger
  • Sitting politely for petting
  • Welcome being groomed and examined
  • Walking on a loose lead
  • Walking among people
  • Sit and down on command and Staying in place
  • Coming when called
  • Reaction to another dog
  • Reaction to distraction
  • Supervised separation

The final class period will include the actual CGC test by a certified evaluator. (The cost of the evaluation is included in the price of the class.)

  • Successful completion of Pet Obedience I.
